About the Catalogue

The Highland Archive Service was established in 1991 in Inverness and since then has been collecting archives covering the historic Highland counties of Inverness-shire, Ross and Cromary, Sutherland, Nairnshire, Caithness and parts of Moray and Argyll. The Highland Archive Service holds Highland records dating from the 13th Century to present day.

This catalogue contains lists of archive collections in all four of our Archive Centres in Inverness, Portree, Fort William and Wick. These collections range from Council records and Police records to privately deposited collections from individuals, estates and businesses. Not all of our listed collections are featured on this catalogue so if you cannot find a particular document or subject, please contact us. You can see an overview of the collections we hold on our individual Archive Centre web pages for the Highland Archive Centre, Nucleus: The Nuclear and Caithness Archive, Lochaber Archive Centre and Skye and Lochalsh Archive Centre.
