Administrative History | Early commerce in Wick was based upon the sea and the river however no regular harbour was created until 1810. Prior to this a number of small jetties and piers were used. The harbour was created to develop the potential fishing industries in the area. The initial harbour proved insufficient to support the industry and was further developed and extended between 1825 and 1831. However after a few years this was again found to be insufficient and an Act was obtained by the Pulteneytown Commissioners in 1844 to further extend the harbour. |
