Administrative History | Nancy was born c.1940 and grew up on a croft in the village of Sarclet. Stories by the peat fire ignited a love of reading and learning which led to her studying at Edinburgh University and Moray House Teacher Training College to become a primary school teacher. From script writing for BBC Scotland Schools Radio, working with the New Makars Trust to Education Officer with Celtic Connections. At 33 Nancy began singing at the Edinburgh Folk Club and soon after began writing her own songs, poems and stories as well as playing the melodeon. As resident musician of the Royal Oak Folk Bar in Edinburgh Nancy was described by a regular as “an instant ceilidh”. Following the loss of her husband Denness Morton, Nancy retired to Loch Street in Wick. Nancy still performs and plays her melodeon. |
