Administrative HistoryThe Wick and Pulteneytown District Nursing Association was formed in 1893, affiliated to the Scottish Council of the Queen Victoria Jubilee Institute for Nurses. The Institute was established to organise the provision of home nursing and midwifery services to the poor either free or via provident schemes, and was involved in early campaigns for good midwifery and public health advice and services. It carried out training of district nurses and supervised the activities of district nursing associations. From 1973 it was known as the Queen's Nursing Institute, and in Scotland, the Queen's Nursing Institute Scotland. In 1953 there were only two district nurses in the parish of Wick who visited people in their own homes and who operated a Health Centre in Sinclair Terrace. The District Nursing Association ran a Maternity Home at Rosebank House for some time but by 1953 this had been handed over to the Hospital Board.
