Administrative History | The letters concern 12 Dutch fishermen who appear to have been captured as prisoners of war. Two are to be sent to Leith, and "The remaining ten are to be disposed of as you may judge most advisable, and as the Herring Fishery on the Coast of Caithness is now beginning, I would beg leave to recommend your sending two or three of them to that Country by any vessel that may be about to sail from Leith to Wick or Thurso, consigning them to the care of Major MacLeay the chief residing magistrate of Wick who will take care to provide immediate employment for them". |
