Administrative History | This book is the story of the 269 Squadron, RAF Wick 1939-1940, but the focus and inspiration was the deaths of Flight Lieutenant Charles David Weaver Price, Pilot Officer James Tayne Taine Fleming, Pilot Officer William Appleby, and Sergeant Laurence Land on 23 July 1940 when their Lockheed Hudson aircraft (UA-J) crashed, an incident commemorated in two silver tankards. Fleming was a New Zealand pilot who joined the RAF to help the war effort. He is buried in the Commonwealth War Graves section of Wick Cemetery, next to Sergeant Land.
