Administrative History | The Halkirk Rifle Volunteer Company was originally formed in December 1860 as one of the separate Caithness Rifle Volunteer companies (the others being Thurso, Wick and Watten). In 1880 the Caithness companies ceased to exist as seprate corps and became united companies of a new consolidated battalion entitled the 1st Sutherland (The Sutherland Highland) Rifle Volunteer Corps with 10 (later 12) companies, and Halkirk became I Company within the Battalion. |
