D. Steven & Son were established in 1920 in Wick, originally operating by horse drawn cart. They are involved in the haulage sector predominantly in the transport of seafood, fishing, oil and agricultural industries.
In 2003, D. Steven and Son were named Scottish European Haulier of the Year and in 2012 they were awarded Scotland’s Top Trailer Fleet.
A report from the ‘John O’Groat Journal on the 18th January 1957 in relation to the sinking of Sound Fisher and the crew’s subsequent rescue, mentions a “Mr David Sandison, fish salesman, local secretary for the Shipwrecked Mariner’s Society”, arranging for all the men to get a complete new outfit of clothes and footwear.
David Sandison is mentioned in his role with the Shipwrecked Mariners Society another two years later, in the John O’Groat Journal, Friday 6th March 1959 in relation to a Swedish cargo ship being stranded and him organising the accommodation for the crew.
