DescriptionNorth Country Cheviot Sheep Society Flock Books and Transactions of the Royal Highland & Agricultural Society
Administrative HistoryIn 1912 breeders in Caithness and Sutherland formed the North Country Cheviot Breeders Association for the purpose of holding shows and sales.
After the Second World War, in 1945, this association was reformed into the existing North Country Cheviot Sheep Society.
The Society was set up to promote the interests of the widely dispersed breed. Ram registration was introduced and an annual Flock Book, giving details of all pure bred flocks, published.
At present there are around 550 members of the Society in the British Isles, spread throughout the whole of the country from Caithness in the North of Scotland to Cornwall in the South of England & including many flock in Wales, Northern Ireland & Ireland.
The popularity of the breed continues to grow – a testament to it’s proven track record of producing what the market demands – quality and value without compromise.
The ‘Northie’ is the complete all rounder, a native breed which thrives in all parts of the UK, and one which truly has withstood the test of time.

It is for everyone who supports the very best standards in agriculture, forestry and stewardship of the countryside, which are such an essential part of our heritage - and our future.
