Administrative History | Wick Sea Cadets have been amalgamated into Thurso Sea Cadets. The Sea Cadets began in 1856 with the Naval Lads’ Brigade, created by coastal communities to provide places for sailors to pass on nautical skills and training to give orphans from the Crimean War a future. More Brigades appeared over the UK and in 1899 Queen Victoria marked their importance to young people by becoming Patron and giving £10 to the Windsor unit for uniforms. HRM The Queen remains Patron of the Sea Cadets today. |
