Administrative History | Alexander (Sandy) McLeod was born in Wick. He worked at the Ropeworks, then as an apprentice painter at the Aerodrome. He became a fireman on the railway in Wick, then in Aviemore. In 1947 he moved to London and was a fireman at Willesden Junction. He joined the Royal Artillery at Woolwich Arsenal and served in Libya. Before he left for Libya he bought a camera and became a keen amateur photographer. He returned to Wick and lived at 47 Coach Road from 1965 on. He was very active in the community. He was a founder member of the Wick Society, a member of Wick Town Improvements Committee alongside his wife, and a member of Caithness Field Club. Mr McLeod’s wife was the daughter of Sinclair Mackay ‘Mr Football’ (Collection ref. C/P/931). He died in September 2019. J.G. Humphries and John Adams were both professional photographers in Wick. John Adams premises were in River Street, Wick.
