Administrative HistoryPradip Datta was born in India. He became a doctor there before coming to the UK in search of higher surgical training. After qualifying he returned to India but was drawn back by the ethos of the NHS. He eventually became a consultant general surgeon in Wick. In Wick, he single-handedly established a postgraduate surgical course, for which he was granted an MBE in the 1998 New Year’s Honours list.
Pradip was a keen sportsman and was known for his prowess in squash. His favourite court at Wick Squash Club was renamed ‘The Pradip Datta Court’ in July 2021.
He passed away in March 2022 after a long illness.
Ian Mackenzie was a well- known local artist and founder member of the Wick Society.
