James Macdonald, doctor, who studied at Glasgow University and in Germany and was given a title by the Italian government for his medical work, which he gave up when Italy joined German side during the First World War.

Thomas MacDonald, who studied law at the University of Glasgow, but left to join the Royal Flying Corps during the First World War
