Administrative HistoryThe papers comprise a record of the work of a group of Easter Ross landowners, led by J.K. Forsyth, his sister and Ray Clark, formed to campaign for the interests of local farmers threatened by plans for the industrial development of the Cromarty Firth in the 1960s and 1970s. An action committee was established in 1967 entitled the Easter Ross Land Use Committee. Unfortunately it has proved difficult to disentangle the work and interests of individuals, and consequently their papers, (especially those of J. and M. Forsyth) from that of the Committee proper. As a result, while the list identifies under a separate heading the records of the Committee, many of the other papers were most likely created by or collected together by the Committee members acting as a body or as individuals.
