Administrative History | John Rollo (1901-1985) was a businessman and founder member of the Highland Fund, established in 1953 to provide loans to assist local business ventures in an attempt to reverse decline in the area (the fund was wound up in 2010). Mr Rollo was also the first deputy chairman of the Highlands and Islands Development Board from 1965-1970, and was heavily involved in many light engineering and manufacturing activities in the Highlands in addition to his main business, Rollo Industries Limited, an engineering firm based in Bonnybridge, Glasgow. Following his death, Mr Rollo was also posthumously revealed as the only man who knew of the whereabouts of the stone of destiny from 31 Dec 1950 until the following Easter, following its removal from Westminster Abbey on 24 Dec 1950, and subsequent recovery. The collection consists of primary and secondary material compiled by Mr Rollo's daughter, relating to his life and work. |
