Administrative History | The Mulbuie Highland Land Law Reform Association was a local branch of a Highland wide organisation which sought to bring about land law reform viz; fair rents, security of tenure and access to common lands. The Association used both political (the Crofter's party) and direct action to achieve its objectives. It fragmented during the 1890s as the Liberal party appeared to adopt and champion its objectives. The Highlands and Islands Medical Service Committee (Chairman Sir John Dewar MP.) was established "to consider how far the provision of medical attendance in districts situated in the Highlands and Islands of Scotland is inadequate and to advise as to the best method of securing a satisfactory medical service therein". This led to the establishing of the grant funded Highland and Islands Medical Service, forerunner of today's NHS. |
