Administrative HistoryThe Inverness Opera Company is one of the oldest established operatic companies in the Highlands and was established on 26th January 1925 as the Inverness Light Opera Company with its first performance being that of The Mikado in 1926. Prior to 1925 there existed another Inverness Light Opera Company, with records of productions from the early 1900s, that was presumably reconstituted in 1925 to form the Inverness Opera Company that we know today.
The Company has been holding productions from 1925 up to the present day with a brief hiatus during the war years resuming productions in 1947. During this time the Company has made use of various venues around Inverness including the Theatre Royal, Central Hall Picture House (later the Empire Theatre), the Little Theatre at Farraline Park, the Playhouse Cinema, Eden Court Theatre, Inverness High School, Royal Academy, and Central Primary School.
In 2004 David Proudfoot and Matt Smith decided to get together to help produced a book to celebrate the Inverness Opera Company's upcoming 80th anniversary in 2005. With the help of members past and present they were able to compile 'A Peep Behind the Curtain' including people's memories of the Company, its history and key figures, and various photographs and newspaper clippings from over the years.
