Administrative HistoryAlexander Urquhart was born on 1 January 1896 at Wester Dalziel, Petty, Inverness-shire to
Alexander & Marjory Urquhart (nee Robertson). His mother died 7 months later, aged 26. In 1901 Alexander was living with his family at Morayston, Petty in the Ploughman's Cottage. In 1911, Alexander, 15, was living at Hillhead (Cattleman's House), Petty with his father, his older sister and three younger brothers.

Between 1911 and 1914, Alexander emigrated to Canada and joined up with the 1st (Western Ontario) Battalion. The unit sailed for Britain in October 1914 as part of the Canadian Expeditionary Force.

Private Alexander Urquhart (Alick), 6273, 1st Battalion Canadian Infantry (Western Ontario Division) was killed on 5 November 1915 in action near Loos after the Battle of Loos and was buried at St Quintin Cabaret Military Cemetery in Belgium.
