Administrative HistoryThe Sutherland Farmers Co-operative Association Ltd was established after some Sutherland farmers gathered together at the Council Chambers in Dornoch on 12 December 1925 to listen to an address by Mr H C Kirkwood of the Scottish Aghricultural Organisation Society on the formation of a Co-operative Society in Dornoch. Those present unanimously agreed to form such an organisation. A provisional committee and secretary were appointed at that meeting, when the application for the Registration of the Society was signed and given to Mr Kirkwood. It was resolved that the society should be called the "Sutherland Farmer's Co-operative Association Ltd." and that the share value should be twenty shillings. At a further meeting on 26 December 1925, Mr Kirkwood advised that the the Association had been registered with effect from 21 December 1925. It was decided that the provisional committee and secretary should be made permanent. The first two meetings were held in the Dornoch Council Chambers, then at the Sutherland Arms Hotel, Dornoch and finally at the North of Scotland College Office, Dornoch. The Association was wound up at a general meeting on 27 April 1972 as the Association had not "traded recently" and there were "no funds left".
