Administrative HistoryThese family trees have been researched by Shelagh Macpherson Noble over a period of 20 years. The principal source of information is General Register House, Edinburgh, Scotland. Information is from both Old Parish Registers (up to 1855) and Statutory Records (from 1855). Documentation includes births, marriages, deaths, census records (from 1841) and Valuation Rolls. The secondary source of information is family documents: wills, letters, photographs, stories and kept newspaper cuttings. Emigration from Scotland to Patagonia in South America, USA, Canada, South Africa and Australia has taken place. The surnames featured are: Macpherson, Grant, Pringle, Elder, & Mercer (relating to Shelagh Macpherson Noble) and Noble, Macleod, Sinclair & Williamson (relating to Alastair Noble). All nine trees end with Euan Noble who, in September 2021, lives in Australia.
The trees focus on the Highlands of Scotland. Of the families featured; the Pringle, Elder and Mercer families were from the Scottish Borders and worked in the woollen industry. The Pringles moved north to manage a woollen mill in Brora before purchasing mills in Inverness and Skye. The Sinclair family came from Sutherland & Caithness and moved to the Inverness area. The Macleod family managed hotels in Plockton, Ardgay, Balmacara and Tomatin.
