Administrative History | David Low, Bishop of Moray, Ross and Argyll was born at Brechin in 1768 and educated at Marischal College, Aberdeen; ordained priest and deacon in 1789; presbyter of Pittenweem and elected Bishop of Ross and Argyll in 1819. Following the relaxation of the 18th century penal laws against the preaching and administering of the sacraments by any bishop, Bishop Low officiated at the consecration of Leeds Parish Church in 1841. In 1850 he resigned following controversy concerning the election of a coadjutor and died at Pittenweem in 1855. He is buried in the Pittenweem Churchyard at the south end of the church. |
