Description | Correspondence, 1898 - 1906 including original correspondence, 1898-1906; Copies of correspondence, 1903-1906 Legal documents, 1874-1906 Papers re Crofter's Commission, 1899 Miscellaneous Papers, 1890-1906 Plans, n.d. |
Administrative History | The documents relate to a protracted, disputed transaction between James Baillie of Dochfour (through his Factor and Commissioner Donald Grant, Grantown) and Donald Macdonald of Kessock (for whom Kenneth MacDonald acted) relating to the sale of the Craigton and Kessock and Redcastle estates and the failure to deliver leases of crofts which became the subject of valid applications to the Crofters Commission for the fixing of fair rents; MacDonald claimed compensation on the grounds of having purchased the estate as incorporating leaseholds rather than crofts, as defined by the Crofters Holdings Act. |
