| Administrative History | Established as Ord Distillery Company by R Johnstone and D MacLennan in 1838. R Johnstone went bankrupt in 1847 and the business was acquired by Alexander MacLennan and Thomas MacGregor in 1855. New buildings were erected in 1878 but were burnt down in a fire. In 1896 the distillery was acquired by James Watson and Company, the Dundee blenders. It changed hands again in 1923 (John Dewar and Sons) and 1930 (SMD). In 1966 it was renovated and expended to 6 stills. In 1985 it was acquired by United Malt and Grain Distillers (United Distillers). |
