Administrative History | The 1st Volunteer Battalion, Inverness-shire Rifle Volunteers, was established in 1860. The battalion was not linked to any regular regiment until 1881 when it was linked to the Seaforth Highlanders, established 1793. In 1887 the battalion was transferred to the Queen's Own Cameron Highlanders and became the 1st (Inverness Highland) Volunteer Battalion, The Queen's Own Cameron Highlanders. In 1908 it became the 4th Battalion, The Queen's Own Cameron Highlanders. |
