| Administrative History | Donald Morrison was probably born in 1749 in Lewis. He was a great-grandson of the famous John Morison of Bragar. He fought in the American War of Independence before returning to Scotland. The survival of the letter books is apparently due to Morrison's grandson who worked at Stornoway Harbour Office, where the original diaries were discovered |
