Administrative HistoryWilliam Dalziel Mackenzie, born 1840, was descended from the Mackenzies of Muirton of Fairbairn and through them from the Mackenzies of Kintail. He bought the estate of Farr, along with Glenkyllachy in Inverness-shire and Inchbrae and Brae in Ross-shire, in 1884. His eldest son, William Roderick Dalziel, was born in 1864, whose own eldest son, Douglas Alexander William Dalzell, was born in 1889. Douglas Alexander William Dalzell was Commissioner for the Royal Estate at Balmoral, under George V. On the death of his grandfather, William Dalziel Mackenzie, he moved to the family Estate of Farr, Inverness-shire. Douglas Alexander William Dalzell's son, Colin Dalzell Mackenzie, was born on 23 March 1919, and became Laird of the Farr Estate himself.
