Administrative HistoryBy an Order under Section 1(6) of the Reorganisation of Offices (Scotland) Act 1928 (18 & 19 Geo. V, c.34) the Board of Agriculture for Scotland ceased to exist on 1 January 1929 and its powers and duties were transferred to the Department of Agriculture for Scotland. The Department of Agriculture for Scotland also had other functions relating to agricultural statistics; agricultural education and research; agricultural organisation and co-operation and the promotion of the interests of agriculture, forestry and other rural issues. In 1960 the transfer of some of the functions relating to the Highlands and Islands from the Scottish Home Department to the Department of Agriculture resulted in the formation of the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries for Scotland (DAFS). DAFS operated until 1999 and the reconstutition of the Scottish Parliament. Most of its functions were then vested in the Rural Affairs Department of the Scottish Executive.
