Administrative History | The British Federation of University Women was founded on the 20th March 1907 at a meeting in Manchester by a group of women graduates led by Miss Ida Smedley. The early aims of the Federation were to 'encourage independent research by women; facilitate [….] co-operation between women of different universities and stimulate the interest of women in municipal and public life.' The Inverness Local Branch of the British Federation of University Women was formed at a meeting held on the 29th November 1944, after headquarters encouraged the formation of a local branch in the area. The group is now disbanded. See History of the British Federation of University Women, published by the British Federation of University Women, London (ref HCA/D718/7/4/1). |
